MOTHER’S HELP

A Mother’s Help is expected to have had some experience in child care but is not expected to have had formal training. She is to be welcomed as a member of the host family and be provided with own room and board by the family.

They work between 40 – 50 hours per week, plus babysitting 2 evenings per week. They receive £130-180 per week. They are not cleaners but duties can include light housework, cooking, shopping and do washing and ironing.

According to Working Time Regulations BAPAA recommends that the UK basic holiday allowance of 28 days per annum should apply or 1.66 days per month pro-rata if the placement is shorter than a year. This can include public and bank holidays.

It is the family’s responsibility to ensure that tax and N.I. are paid.
